Basic Laptop Internet Troubleshooting Guide
Step 1: Make note of applicable errors-
Are there any errors you have gotten in relation to your internet connectivity issues?
If you have gotten errors, make note of them in case the issue requires IT assistance
If there are no errors, continue to the next steps.
Step 2: Check the right bottom corner of your task bar to see if the Wi-Fi icon gives indication to connection status-
Do you see the Wi-Fi icon?
If you do not see the icon, go to your system's search bar and type in "wifi" then choose the "Change Wi-Fi Settings" option
If you see the icon, click it and continue
If you click the icon, does the menu it brings up say you are connected to anything?
If you are not connected, choose a Wireless connection and click the "Connect" button
If you are connected and nothing else is wrong, it should say "Connected, Secured"
If it says "Limited" or anything else under the name of the Wi-Fi you are connected to there may be a deeper issue.
Step 3: Check physical switches on laptop-
Are any physical switches flipped on the laptop?
Sometimes an airplane mode or Wi-Fi switch will accidentally get flipped on the side of a laptop that has the feature. This will cause internet connectivity issues if the switch is flipped into the incorrect position.
If there is a physical switch, ensure that it is flipped to the correct position
Step 4: Try a different browser to access the web-page you are experiencing issues with-
Does the same thing happen when you try a different web browser? (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer)
Sometimes browsers may have glitches, corruption, or other issues that might cause them to not load web-pages correctly. Trying to access from another browser may solve your issues
If the same thing happens, chances are it is not browser related.
If you still encounter any issues after following these steps, please let us know by putting in a ticket.
